World Labyrinth Day Disclaimer

This is my disclaimer, for I won't be able to join in a labyrinth walk today, but will be there in spirit.

World Labyrinth Day (WLD) is an annual international event held on the first Saturday of May to promote peace, mindfulness, and celebration of labyrinths. Founded by The Labyrinth Society in 2009, thousands participate by walking a labyrinth at 1:00 p.m. local time to create a "rolling wave of peaceful energy" across the globe.

According to the WorldLabyrinthDay.org, every year on the first Saturday in May thousands of people around the globe participate in World Labyrinth Day as a moving meditation for world peace and celebration of the labyrinth experience. Many “Walk as One at 1” local time to create a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next, and there are additional ways to participate.

So why the "Labyrinth?"

A labyrinth combines the imagery of a circle and a spiral to form an irregular, meandering path toward a central location. The design has been appearing in caves, on coins and pottery, and as turf or stone structures from as early as the Stone or Bronze Ages.

Traditional labyrinths have the entrance/exit at the bottom, while a separate, radial style show the entrance/exit at the top. Prehistoric or ancient labyrinths may have been used in sacred dance and ritual. Roman labyrinths appear at the entrance of buildings which could have had a function of protection or been meant to symbolize a sacred path to deity.

Medieval Christian labyrinths appeared both in church entrances and on the sanctuary floors. Although their purpose is unclear, they could have been used in Easter rituals with penitents following the labyrinth on their knees or been designed as protection from demons. In India, there is a belief that labyrinths are the refuge of a trickster spirit and that the demon Ravana rules over labyrinths.

The first labyrinths, is found in myth of Minotaur, where Minos refuses to sacrifice a bull to Poseidon out of greed. The angry Poseidon punished the king by making his wife fall in love with a bull. The fruit of this union was the monster Minotaur, half-bull, half-man. Full of shame, Minos imprisoned the monster in a labyrinth – a word which comes from the Greek “labrys” and refers to the double axe – the symbol of the supremacy of the Cretan Mother Goddess. The deeper meaning of the labyrinth is associated with the feminine life giving force, the earth-bound instinctual nature of our bodies. The centre of the labyrinth is the goddess’s womb.

The power of nature and instincts, the Greek zoe, the sheer life force – this is how the ancients perceived the bull. Only a woman – Ariadne – knew the way around the labyrinth into its centre. It seems that this first labyrinth was designed to guard the darkest heart of nature and to keep its secrets from the solar, upper-world consciousness. Alternatively, it symbolized the fear of Minos, that is the ego consciousness, of the bestial instincts, which he tried to repress.

Interestingly, also in Christianity the labyrinths were constructed to worship Mother Goddess. The most famous example is the stone Labyrinth from the cathedral in Chartres. It is believed that originally it had the image of Minotaur in its centre, but it was later removed. Now the centre of the Labyrinth features the Mystic Rose, emblem of Mary on the one hand and the ultimate symbol of the Self and the union of the opposites on the other.

Some researchers make a point of differentiating between the maze and the labyrinth. Karen Ralls explains:

“A labyrinth eventually takes one to a Center. A maze does not, but has many twists and turns in its path, even the occasional “dead end.”

Those who walk the labyrinth do so to find inner peace, to meditate and find a way through silence to inner truth. Cirlot adds that at the centre of the labyrinth conjunction occurs between the conscious and the unconscious. Perhaps the seeming duality of the confusing maze and the orderly labyrinth can be reconciled by invoking human and divine perspective:

“From within, the view is extremely restricted and confusing, while from above one discovers a supreme artistry and order.

According to symbolreader.net:

"The maze, thus, seems to symbolize our human limited perspective, our entanglement in the world of the senses and desires, our getting lost, taking the “wrong” path, occasionally feeling lost and desperate."

So brothers, sisters, and non-binary siblings, however you navigate through your labyrinth of life today, do so with a kind spirit, for we are all in this together regardless if we walk or not,

Groundhog Day, Esoterically

We all know the legend of Groundhog Day, or do we?

According to the American Philosophical Society in 1888: “If the groundhog sees his shadow on the second of February, he goes back to his hole in the ground for another six weeks’ doze, as he knows that the winter will endure so much longer; per contra, if he cannot see it, he stays out, for he knows that the severe weather is past.”

Yeah, like that will really work, especially with Climate Change.

In Christianity, February 2nd marks 40 days after Christmas. In Scripture, the Evangelist St. Luke tells us that Joseph and Mary took the baby Jesus to the Temple as was the custom on the fortieth day after birth for all babies to be presented to the Temple, hence, the name “The Presentation.” In the West, it is referred to as Candlemas.

Only problem with this story is that Jesus was not born on December 24th, the Winter Solstice was the old pagan ritual that took place around December 24th when the sun appeared to die and return after three days.

So what was February 2nd before the Christian takeover?

The roots of Groundhog Day can be traced to the Irish Celtic festival, Imbolc, which marks the beginning of spring. Celebrated on February 1 and associated with the goddess of fertility, now known as St. Brigid, Imbolc marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It is a celebration of the upcoming spring and the longer days ahead.

Celtic fertility goddess Brighid

It was said that on the eve of Imbolc, February 1, the Celtic fertility goddess Brighid was said to travel from home to home granting blessings to virtuous inhabitants while they slept.

The people even left milk and food for Brighid as she went about her travels. The goddess was believed to have had the power to shift the season from the months of darkness to the months of light, and people would light candles to symbolize this.

The Cailleach / the witch

Fire was always a central theme in this battle between winter and spring. In Celtic myth, it was said that an old woman or witch, known as the Cailleach, gathered firewood for the rest of winter.

A dark figure the Cailleach wished winter to last longer and would ensure February 1 was bright and sunny so she could collect enough wood for the rest of the winter. If the day was dark and cloudy it means the Cailleach would sleep and be unable to gather more wood, therefore spring would surely arrive soon.

So where did the groundhog come into this story? For this, we must look back to the ancient Romans who also believed they could predict the year's weather however in their case it was linked to soothsaying.

The Romans looked to hedgehogs for guidance. It was said that if during hibernation, he (the hedgehog) looks out of his den on Feb 2 and sees his shadow it means there is a clear moon and six more weeks of winter so he returns to his burrow.

This tradition was carried through Europe, including in Germany, with the arrival of Germans to Pennsylvania that they took up the tradition once more. However, as hedgehogs are not native to the state they turned to the now-famous groundhog for their predictions.

The rest is history.

Here is a video I restored for this post.

The Blood Moon,

If you've been reading EsotericDaily.com over the last fifteen years, you know I love moons. All moons. And so I've written about men on the moon, a Snow Moon, a Fake Moon, a Blue Moon, a Black Moon, the Super Moon, and of course, being Mooned by a Gargoyle -- to name a few.  The moon I want to talk about today is today's Blood Moon, for it really is a continuation of the year of the Fire Horse which is going to change everything.

So what is a Blood Moon?  Simply stated, it is the total eclipse of the moon from Earth which happens because the Earth blocks all direct sunlight from falling onto the lunar surface, and so the Moon takes on a reddish color.

The Incan Empire which was a vast South American empire that flourished from the early 15th century A.D. until its conquest by the Spanish in the 1530s, called their Moon goddess Mama Quilla and thought that she cried silver tears. They believed the Blood Moon was caused by an animal or serpent attacking Mama Quilla. Their custom was to try to scare away the Blood Moon  by making as much noise as possible.

The world’s earliest civilizations believed the Moon was being attacked during a Blood Moon, and so figured that their king was being assaulted as well, and they protected their king by hiding him and installing a substitute ruler. When the total eclipse had passed, their king emerged from hiding and resumed his position as ruler.

The Christians figured it was a sign of the return of Jesus;

"And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the Earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness. And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord – King James Bible, Joel 2:30"

According to Joel 2:30, Jesus might be coming back tomorrow(?) but I doubt this because I think he is already here in Donald Trump who has the support of the Christian church like no other president ever.

How can we forget our beautiful Pagans, who believed the The Blood Moon carried powerful spiritual meanings, which announced a time of endings, deep transformation, and rebirth.

Historically, both solar and lunar eclipses were often seen with awe or fear. They were sometimes read as omens of death, upheaval, or the fall of rulers, while in other traditions they were woven into myth as celestial battles. Here’s a look at how some cultures and religions felt about them.Norse mythology: Eclipses were explained as the wolves Sköll and Hati chasing the Sun and Moon. When they caught their prey, an eclipse occurred.

Although there are many traditions regarding a Blood Moon, the common factor is they all believe it brings hidden truths to the surface and closes cycles that are no longer meant to continue; which brings me back to the Year of the Fire Horse which will make this year the most interesting ever.  Yes, ever.

Hold on to your seats boys and girls, all we can do at this point is howl.

The Wacky Fire Horse Year is Here, Hold On To Your Behinds....

This is the Chinese Lunar Calendar year of the horse.  No big deal.  According to our friends at Google Ai, the year of the horse is a year of rapid change, freedom, energy, and adventure, often signaling a fast-paced, action-oriented period. It emphasizes independence, creativity, and hard work.

That's the Chinese Calendar and we all have an animal, mine happens to be the Pig, which is considered very fortunate.  And I would definitely say I've been blessed with plenty of good fortune.  I got my health, food, shelter, and a little money left over each month.  Not bad for a high school dropout from Detroit Michigan, but I digress.

What I learned yesterday, after chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for world peace, for two hours at my local Soka Gakkai Buddhist Center, from a conversation with another leader, is that this is not only the year of the Horse, it is the year of the Fire Horse

What this means is that the Chinese zodiac system combines 12 animal signs with the 10 heavenly stems, or 10 symbols that represent the five elements, each in yin and yang forms.

As our friends at Mental Floss write: In Chinese tradition, the Horse is far from subtle. People born in the year of the horse are often described as energetic, independent, and confident. The animal itself symbolizes hard work, bravery, resilience, and freedom. Historically vital for transportation and agriculture, horses represent endurance and progression, qualities that directly translate into the Chinese zodiac

So in a nutshell, the Fire Horse only happens every 60 years.  And the last time it happened was 1966, when: the Vietnam War between the US and Vietnam was at its peak, the Chinese Culture Revolution began, the Civil Rights fight was on fire with the beginning of the Black Panther Party, Malcom X, John Lennon of the Beatles says the Beatles "...are more popular that Jesus," which sparked the conservative backlash that is still with us today, art with Andy Warhal, etc.

It was an explosive year to say the least.

Go back 1906, the previous Fire Horse year and you have the San Francisco Earth Quake, Theodore Roosevelt becomes the first US president to visit a foreign county,  Mahatma Gandhi coins the term Satyagraha, to characterize the nonviolence movement in South Africa.  In 1906, the women's suffrage movement the saw intensified militancy, with the term "suffragette" coined in the UK to describe WSPU militants, such as those in the 1906 march, who used direct action to demand voting rights. In the US, Harriot Stanton Blatch founded the Equality League of Self-Supporting Women to engage working-class women. Notably, 1906 saw Finland become the first European country to grant women full suffrage, etc.

And now, in 2026, the year of the Fire Horse began officially on February 17th, which saw a significant annular solar eclipse -- often called a "ring of fire" -- visible primarily over the Southern Ocean. The civil rights leader Jesse Jackson dies, and a fatal, record-setting avalanche in the California Sierra Nevada.n February 17, 2026, President Donald Trump stated he would be involved "indirectly" in high-stakes nuclear talks with Iran.... Which as I write this, the US and Israel are bombing Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan  are in a full-fledged war, Russian is still bombing Ukraine, and the Israelis are still killings people in their retaliation against the Palestinian people for their attack on Israel two years ago.

I could go on, but you get my drift.  We are in for a very big year.  Stay turned here at EsotericDaily.com as we parse this shit out together with open eyes to see.

Collective Consciousness

Collective consciousness, a concept primarily introduced by French sociologist Émile Durkheim, refers to the shared beliefs, ideas, moral attitudes, and sentiments that are common to the average members of a society or social group. It operates as a unifying force, shaping individuals’ behaviors, interactions, and perceptions within a community, thereby fostering social cohesion and solidarity. Though it exists in the minds of individuals, Durkheim viewed it as a distinct and discernible entity that stands apart from individual consciousness, exerting a compelling influence on social behavior and is passed down through generations.

That's the definition, now here's the Esoteric Truth: Collective Consciousness is the Ego in us looking for an orgy.

June 18th, The End Begins For the End

Today is June 18th,

In today's AP News, more precisely, the "Today in History" section, they reported that on this day in 1812, the War of 1812 began. For those who don't study the esoteric affects of history as I do, here is the rundown on the War of 1812:

The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain from 1812 to 1815, primarily over British violations of American maritime rights. The war ended in a stalemate.

Then, on this day in 1815, Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo.

The Battle of Waterloo, fought on June 18, 1815, near Waterloo, Belgium, marked Napoleon's final defeat and the end of the Napoleonic Wars.

So what is so esoteric about this?  Well, along with the Doomsday Fish that I wrote about last week, all signs are pointing to the demise of President Donald Trump.  Today, Israel is bombing Iran, the conflict no one wants to see.  Well, no one outside a few biblical nuts who Israel vs. Iran is a sign Jesus is coming to punish the Buddhist, but I digress.  No one in their right mind wants to see these two countries at war, and up until now, all presidents have been able to navigate a peace between the two Abrahamic faiths. President Trump ask for a "unconditional surrender." which basically has given Isreal the goahead to demolish another country.  Yes, it is a mess, and one taken lightly will cause the USA, my country, a lot of problems.  And so, the news that a war started on this day, and that another ended in defeat, should wake us all up.  We need someone willing to listen, not a monkey banging cymbals in the air for attention.

June 17 Happens

So much I could write about that represents the Esoteric Side of a June 17th, for instance, long before the fictional Dracula was created by Bram Stroker, on a June 17 in the year 1462, Vlad Dracula emerged from his hideaway and attacked an Ottoman camp with his howling army behind him, and when the dust settled, there were 20,000 Turks stuck in the air on stakes; a ghastly sight of blood not seen before.

Vlad Dracula's father was given the name "Dracul" for his membership in the Order of the Dragon, a secret society boys club some say is still with us today.  Of course, this gave his son the name of Dracula, "Son of the Dragon." Bram Stroker is believed to have drawn some of his inspiration for his famed Gothic horror novel from this spawn of the Dragon, the historical Vlad Dracula.

I was here first, deal with it.
Even more ghastly to some of us, on a June 17 in 1578, Sir Francis Drake landed his ship off the coast of northern California, what is close to the Bay Area today, and claimed it for the British empire. The Native Americans greeted him with gifts, he gave them clothes to cover their bodies because his little British pencil was tingling.  The rest is history.  What was a Native population of about 4 million, would dwindled to 800 thousand by the year 1800.

But, to put things in perspective, on this day in 1775 at the Battle of Bunker Hill, Colonel William Prescott told his soldiers, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes."

Interesting, that on June 17 in Nara Japan, an annual purification ritual to drive away evil spirits is blessed by seven white-robed priestesses with a traditional dance.  Which brings us to 1994 and the O.J. Simpson highway chase after he was accused of murdering his ex wife, Nicole Simpson, who's white dog was found walking the streets with bloody paws. Loosely connected?  Maybe.  Esoteric?  Definitely.

A Freethinker in Jail for Blasphemy: Truth will Prevail.

On May 28th in 1882, G.W. Foote published an issue of The Freethinker that would land him in jail for the charges of blasphemy.  He would be the last person prosecuted under this law, of course, the bullshit prosecutions are still out there, but the names have changed.

In May 1881, G. W. Foote began the radical magazine called The Freethinker.  In the first issue he wrote: “The Freethinker is an anti-Christian organ, and must therefore be chiefly aggressive. It will wage relentless war against Superstition in general, and against Christian Superstition in particular”.

Wow, isn't that something, if the New York Times or any other modern day publication read by mainstream U.S.A wrote that today there would be hell to pay.  So, G. W. Foote was definitely one hell of a man, in my humble opinion.

His primary writings were parody and satire with weekly Bible cartoons:

In 1882 Foote was charged with blasphemy for having published these biblical cartoons. Two blasphemy prosecutions were brought against the issues of 28 May 1882.  Foote pleaded his case that "religion" was "myth" and for humans to obtain their humanist potential, we needed to stop following "myths" -- I paraphrase.  Of course, the Christian church controlled everything then as it does now and so Foote was sentenced to a year in prison.

The good news is that just like all the right-wing laws they try pushing down our throats today with their radical-right-wing judges, the prosecution of Foote did nothing to stop progress: The Freethinker is still publishing truth over myth today.

So stay strong people, we're winning and they know it, there will be setbacks, but in the end, Truth will win.

 Can I get a hallelujah!

Pagan USA and “In God We Trust” Scam

On this day in the year 1800, the House of Representatives suggested the building of a pyramid, 100 feet square at the base and "of proportional height."  The notion that a pyramid would best represent the idea of George Washington.   Hence, in accordance with Masonic practices, construction of the obelisk began on July 4, 1848, with a ceremonial laying of the enormous cornerstone, which had been donated by the Mason Thomas Symington who owned the quarries from which the monument's marble was taken.  The ceremony was conducted by Benjamin French, wearing the Masonic apron and sash George Washington had worn when he laid the cornerstone of the Capitol building in 1793.

Some say the obelisk was chosen because America wanted to look like it had been around for awhile, or as other's have suggested, "put down ancient roots" by choosing the ancient Egyptian symbol.   I don't know, looks pretty much like a male phallic symbol to me from all the male energy that founded this country.   Unfortunately, I have to break the news to ya'll here:  it's Pagan!  More precisely, Pan, the goat god of  sensuality.  The word ‘obelisk’ literally means ‘Baal’s shaft’ or Baal’s organ of reproduction.”

Another story links the obelisk to a different phallic myth – Osiris’ golden phallus.

Osiris was a king of Egypt who married his sister Isis. His brother Set wished to usurp the throne and so plotted his death. He tricked Osiris into climbing into a golden chest. As soon as he was inside, Set nailed down the lid and flung the chest into the Nile. It was carried off to Byblos in Syria where it came to rest against a small Tamarisk tree or Acasia tree, with the dead Osiris still inside. Isis found out what Set had done to Osiris, so she set off to find her husband. A vision led her to Byblos, where she recovered his body and took it back to Egypt.

Set stole it again and tore it into fourteen pieces, which he scattered throughout Egypt to prevent Osiris from coming to life again. Isis recovered all but one of the pieces – the penis – and gave Osiris a fit burial. Their son, Horus, avenged him by slaying Set. Another son, Anubis, resurrected Osiris with the ‘lion grip.’

Having triumphed over the grave, Osiris now reigns as king and judge of the so called dead. The piece of Osiris that Isis never recovered was the penis, which Set had thrown into the Nile where it was eaten by fish. Ever resourceful, Isis manufactured an artificial organ (the golden phallus) around which the Egyptians eventually established a cult or festival they could pay tribute to.

From this it is a small step to the conclusion that the obelisk was itself meant to be a phallic symbol.

Whether of Osiris, Baal, or fertility in general, it was a representation of fatherhood and patriarchy.

While the idea that the obelisk is a representation of the phallus may be a story that seems stranger than fiction, when you think of Washington as the founding father of the United States, and the obelisk being a representation of fatherhood/patriarchy, it makes a lot of sense.

In 1908 the U.S. Congress adopted a law making the phrase "In God We Trust" obligatory on certain American coins.   It was placed there to replace the socialistic phrase put their by the framers of our constitution: "Out of Many, One" -- E Pluribus Unum.

Yes, it wasn't until 1908 that the political use of the word God found its way into politics.  So, the next time someone tells you this is Gods country and holds up a dollar bill to prove it, tell them to “open a f*&king history book, bozo.”

The Goddess Diana

Today, Initiates, let's look at one of my favorite heavenly deities, the goddess Diana, for in Roman times on this day (April 11th), it was customary to bake bread in her honor.   Yes, like the bread used in today's popular churches, worshipers of Diana broke bread in her honor,  and it sometimes had a cross on it too, hmmmm, which is no biggie because throughout history, gods, goddesses, and their ways have been shared.  For example, Diana was actually Artemis to the Greeks before she was Diana to that Romans, that's just how the gods and goddesses swing.

Like the Greek goddess of hunting, Artemis, Diana was also the goddess of hunting, and so for luck before the hunt, families of the hunters would bake bread in her honor; if the hunt was successful, the families would sing praises to Diana as they dressed their kill, and that evening, they would party like it was 1999 -- BC of course.   Wine, costumes, and if the guards weren't looking, a little toot.  Of course, like today there were those more intellectual types who would take mushrooms and veg' out in the bathhouses, but that's a story for another time.

As with all religions, worship of Diana changed over time and so she went from the goddess of the hunt, to the goddess of chastity, fertility, and the moon.  Her services were usually held in open-air temples, or altars in the forest.  Her followers became so popular in size that she even has an honorable mention in Acts 19 of today's Christian bible, where it is stated that people "...rioted in Diana's defense, shouting 'Great is Diana of the Ephesians!'."  Brings tears to my eyes.

The thing that led to the destruction of Diana's church, however, wasn't that she was so popular with the people, but that she was popular with the slaves who could find sanctuary in her temples, and so would not be returned to their owners like the other faiths would do; which, the powers that be, both secular and religious, could not have for one second; this, I believe in my humble opinion, is the reason Diana was never recognized as a Roman deity like Jupiter, Apollo, or Juno -- to name a few.

Yes, Diana was originally the hunting goddess associated with wild animals and woodlands, who later became a moon goddess of the people which made her the emblem of chastity.  Oak groves were especially sacred to her, and she was praised in poetry for her strength, athletic grace, purity, distinct beauty, and hunting skill.

Finally, as with all of our heavenly deities of our past, the free and open worship of Diana ended by the hands of the Demiurge followers who raided and destroyed her temples led by Saints such as John Chrysostom in the early fifth century, which was recorded in history as a "peaceful" conversion.  It wasn't, it was a violent sadistic act in the name of their god which sent us running to the woods for safety.  The place we remain today.

An Esoteric Look at the April Fools' Day, That Is.

The Fool
April 1st is here again, happy new cycle!  What joy.  Ode to joy.  One of those rare days we can take our mask off and be ourselves. “Do this in my honor,” said the lord Jesus.  I’ll show you where He said that later, but first, let’s dig deeper into this first day of fools, April 1st.

We must start with the Tarot, for The Fool card is Zero and represents the start of a new cycle.  The Fool is enthusiastic and impulsive, and any lessons he/she learns in this life will make them grow in the next.  Yes, I am talking about rebirth, or as we like to say in modern times, reincarnation.

You see, in ancient times, April 1st was the first day of the new year.  It was the natural start of a new cycle.  The time when life was returning to the trees and flowers, and the frozen ice was retreating back into the earth from which it came.  The Anglo-Saxxons called it Eastermonath, for the goddess Eostre, who was the goddess of spring and rebirth.  She was also called “Ostara” and “Eastre” in other tribes.  The name is not important, for most of the written records honoring the pagan gods and goddesses of the past were destroyed by the Abrahmic faiths as they grew into the Knights in Satan's Army that they are today.  Sad, but true.

Aphrodite

April is named after the Greek goddess Aphrodite (the Roman Venus). And in ancient, ancient times, after the March equinox, it was customary to hold a week-long celebration to mark the end of winter and the beginning of spring.  Yes, the miracle of reincarnation of life that happens right before our eyes every year.   This, my spirit guides reminds me, is why we feel such joy this time of year as we are reminded of the reality of our own deaths (winters), which will inevitably be followed up by our reincarnations (springs); time, after, time, after, time....  The miracle that no religious story can top, for we see it before our own eyes, each year; that is, for those of us with eyes to see.

Yes, reincarnation, that thing we all know from within; that thing that can't be learned from a book, or taught through a religious conversion. That thing we all know when we see people we've seen before, for the first time.  That thing that is just there from the beginning of our lives to the end.  The base of all true religious beliefs before the Abrahamic faiths became threatened by it -- for reasons I do not understand --  and had all of the "reincarnation stories" wiped out from history by crushing the Pagans, Cathars, Gnostics, Kabbalist, Sufis, etc....  all of us who would not be converted, and so were put to flames, the sword, or both.  I know, I was one of them.

Demiurge
That threat of reincarnation scared them so much that they changed the first of the year from April 1st to January 1st to try and wipe reincarnation from our memories as they had our other celebrations which were now theirs in the form of religious holidays.  But we knew the truth, and so when April 1st came along we ran into the streets playing tricks on them, and we laughed, and they called us crazy but because their own spirits knew the truth they celebrated too by joining in our tricks, even though they knew not why in their minds, they knew why in their souls.  And those behind the scenes, the Demiurge's Knights in Satan's Army, knew what we were up to.  And so we continue our celebration of the New Year on April 1st each year.  The jester fools to the king who allows us this day for his amusement.  For even the king knows that he too will one day be reincarnated, possibly, into that of a jester.

Yes, it is April Fools' Day today.  Let the cycle begin.

Oh yeah, and about that Jesus quote I started with: April Fools'!

Eosteric Look at the Origins of St. Valentine's Day.

<

Okay, so it is another Valentine's Day and the normal question that comes up around this time of year for me is here again; this question being: what the hell?  Why do we need a special day to tell someone something we should be telling them every single day of the year?  Well, other than the obvious commercial reasons of making a whole lot of money for investors in the chocolate, flower, and the mushy-romantic cards industries, it's a Roman fertility feast called Lupercalia which ran from February 13th to the 15th of each year back in Pagan days.

So put on your tin hats and historian goggles boys and girls for we are going to have an Esoteric look at the Origins of St. Valentine's Day.

First, like all of the other popular celebrations, St Valentine's Day comes to us from our Pagan past, and like most Pagan celebrations was bastardized by the Christian church to make you believe that Christians are the reason for everything.  The Christian Church story goes something like this: a man named Valentine was executed by the Roman Emperor Claudius II after being imprisoned for assisting persecuted Christians and secretly marrying Christian couples in love.  Well, there are no historical records collaborating this one anymore than the other Christian myths.  Further more, even the modern Christian church warns that St. Valentine's Day has its roots in our Pagan and should not be celebrated.

Yet, we do.

According to History.com, today's Valentine's Day tradition is with us today because in the late 5th century A.D., Pope Gelasius I eliminated the pagan celebration of Lupercalia and declared February 14 a day to celebrate the martyrdom of Saint Valentine.  Yes, just as they had done with the Winter's Solstice celebration by claiming it as the day Baby Jesus was born, Pope Gelasius I decided to do the same with the Feast of Lupercalia and use it as a church building event.  Which, as we will see shortly, was a good thing if you are a goat.

The Pagan roots of Valentine's Day are from the Feast of Lupercalia celebration where Roman men sacrificed goats and used the goat's skin to whip women in the belief that this would make them fertile.  And why would they do this? Well, according to Roman legend, the ancient King Amulius ordered Romulus and Remus—his twin nephews and founders of Rome—to be thrown into the Tiber River to drown in retribution for their mother having broken her vow of celibacy.  That's right, the King came home one night drunk and bedded her and then punished her for given up her celibacy.   Some things never change.

Continuing with the pagan version of St. Valentine's Day, a servant took pity on the brothers and placed them inside a basket on the river where the river-god carried the basket to a wild fig tree where it became caught in the branches. The brothers were then rescued and cared for by a she-wolf -- the animal, not the singer Shakira.

The twins were later adopted by a shepherd and his wife and learned their father’s trade.  After killing the uncle who’d ordered their death, they found the cave den of the she-wolf who’d nurtured them and named it Lupercal.

It’s thought Lupercalia took place to honor the she-wolf and please the Roman fertility god Lupercus.

Lupercalia rituals took place in a few places: Lupercal cave, on Palatine Hill and within the Roman open-air, public meeting places. The festival began at Lupercal cave with the sacrifice of one or more male goats—a representation of sexuality—and a dog.

The sacrifices were performed by Luperci, a group of Roman priests. Afterwards, the foreheads of two naked Luperci were smeared with the animals’ blood using the bloody, sacrificial knife. The blood was then removed with a piece of milk-soaked wool as the Luperci laughed.

In Ancient Rome, feasting began after the ritual sacrifice where they ran ran naked whipping any woman within striking distance with the thongs of goat meat.

During Lupercalia, the men randomly chose a woman’s name from a jar to be coupled with them for the duration of the festival. Often, the couple stayed together until the following year’s festival. Many fell in love and married.

Over time, nakedness during Lupercalia lost popularity. The festival became more chaste, if still undignified, and women were whipped on their hands by fully-clothed men.

So, there you have the origins of St. Valentine's Day.  And needles to say I won't be giving out flowers, or sacrificing a goat, but I will be eating chocolate to please the Pagan gods.

More on the Escaping Monkeys

January 29th, and I have a followup for you on the Escaped Lab Monkeys from last week.  Seems a Pennsylvania woman is now being treated for rabies from one of the escaping monkeys.  She had stopped to help the crash victems and looked in one of the crates and was hissed at by a scared monkey.  A few hours later she developed a cold and then pink eye.

In this report the writer explains how the monkeys cages were filled with piss and shit.   And so I ask the question again: "Our We People or Monsters?"

Yes, we are Monsters, and this is the Planet of the Monsters (Humans).  We experiment on monkeys who are scared shitless in a world they don't understand.  What really sucks is the monkey could have been you or me in another life.   There are those that believe we could have been lower lifeforms, but because of a good deed, like maybe we went against our instinct to eat a human we saw crying for dinner, and so we reincarnated into a higher life.  Now, here's the kicker, if this is true, by doing nothing about animal cruelty you might be reincarnated into a lower life.  If so, pray to the stars you aren't on this planet.  Planet of the Monsters!
