change is a coming, a good, happy, New Atlantis...

In case you missed the news last week, the lost continent of Atlantis has been found.

That's right folks, Plato wasn't bullshitting when he spoke of the land called Atlantis, where a mighty empire vanished beneath the waves after a series of “excessively violent earthquakes and floods.”

Douwe van Hinsbergen, a geologist at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, has been exploring one of the most dramatic of these lost continents — known as Greater Adria. In a paper published in early September in the journal Gondwana Research, he and his colleagues studied rocks around and beneath the Mediterranean Sea to reveal the full extent of Greater Adria for the first time. “It’s enormous! About the size and rough shape as Greenland,” he says.

If you don’t recall seeing Greater Adria on a map, there’s a reason for that. It is completely buried — not under the ocean, but beneath southern Europe. About 140 million years ago, the two continents began to collide. Greater Adria got bulldozed and buried in the process and mostly sank beneath what is now Italy, Greece and the Baltics.

So pull out your crystals boys and girls, because from Plato to Edgar Casey to Isaac Asimov people have been telling us about the lost city of Atlantis, where everyone was rich and took care of each other.  Funny, how the finding of this continent comes at a time when "Climate Change," "Over Population," and "Greed" have given us a distressed world where people are killing people just for the fame and the United States of America has given us a modern Adolf Hitler.

So, what am I saying here?

Simple:  change is a coming, a good, happy, New Atlantis... which includes medical care for all and free education.  Okay, so you rich bastards will have to downsize you five-thousand square feet homes down to something more manageable like, say twenty-five hundred square feet.  I mean, how many rooms do you need for your kid?

Wake Up America, don't get left behind.  Stop Supporting Hate.  Stop Supporting "Climate Change Denying" politicians.  Stop supporting Republicans!  Please, before it is too late.

The Tale

According to the Egyptians, or rather what Plato described Critias reporting what his grandfather was told by Solon who heard it from the Egyptians, once upon a time, there was a mighty power based on an island in the Atlantic Ocean. This empire was called Atlantis, and it ruled over several other islands and parts of the continents of Africa and Europe.

Atlantis was arranged in concentric rings of alternating water and land. The soil was rich, said Critias, the engineers technically accomplished, the architecture extravagant with baths, harbor installations, and barracks. The central plain outside the city had canals and a magnificent irrigation system. Atlantis had kings and a civil administration, as well as an organized military. Their rituals matched Athens for bull-baiting, sacrifice, and prayer.

But then it waged an unprovoked imperialistic war on the remainder of Asia and Europe. When Atlantis attacked, Athens showed its excellence as the leader of the Greeks, the much smaller city-state the only power to stand against Atlantis. Alone, Athens triumphed over the invading Atlantean forces, defeating the enemy, preventing the free from being enslaved, and freeing those who had been enslaved.

After the battle, there were violent earthquakes and floods, and Atlantis sank into the sea, and all the Athenian warriors were swallowed up by the earth.

A Buddhist on Climate Change

In my Nichiren Buddhist training, I've learned to roll with the punches.  That is to say, happiness has nothing to do with what is going on around us or the material things we have.  Happiness is just what we are with our Buddhist nature.  So, we tend to see the good in all things.  For one, without the bad things, the good things would hardly be noticed.  That is one part, the other part is out of bad things there is always a good thing.  You know, you have a car accident which seems bad but then they find a spot on the x-ray which saves your life.  So it is an attitude thing.

A great example of this is with today's Climate Change.  We all know it is bad and we all know that greedy leaders like Donald Trump have no internal guidance to do anything about it and so it will continue to get worse and all we can do is stop using straws and chant/pray.  This is true, but there will be things brought to light by this.  For instance, the Greed Worship that has got us here is being exposed and more and more people are seeing that we need to stop chasing fame and fortune and start being more compassionate.  We need to "give more" and "take less."

Easier said than done, I know.

On another note, because of Climate Change, receding waters has shown us a new "Stonehenge" in Spain.  That's right, receding waters levels in Spain’s ValdecaƱas Reservoir has exposed a stone monument dating back to between 4,000 to 5,000 years ago.

Kidnapped China, look at the hands!

I've been searching high and low for good news to share, and I'll tell you, it's hard.  However, I found something.

Seems a Chinese girl escaped being kidnapped by giving the "OK" signal with her hands at an airport.  This alerted people around her to talk with her and the kidnapper ran and she was returned to her parents.

Although I couldn't find the video, I did find this photo:

And so, if you see someone making this sign near you, introduce yourself.  Ask them directions or something.  The life you save could return the favor one day.

Really.

Finally, some good news for Mother Earth!

Finally, some good news for Mother Earth!

A Giant Pumice Stone Floating in the
Pacific could help heal the Great Barrier Reef
in Australia.

Keep Chanting, Meditating, or Praying for Earth's
Healing.  It's happening!

The massive floating sheet of volcanic rock was first spotted by sailors on August 9, days after an underwater volcano is believed to have erupted near the Pacific Island of Tonga, according to NASA Earth Observatory.

The pumice, which is filled with holes and cavities, floats like an iceberg does, with about 90% underwater and 10% above water.  The pumice is expected to drift with the current down to the Australian coast where scientist believe it could have a positive affect on the microorganisms there.

For those of us chanting, praying, and meditating for the healing of our planet, this is a good start.

Now go buy a Prius for the sake of god!

Chanting “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo”

Okay, so I chanted “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo” for the first time to see what all the fuss was about.  And well, it was weird.  Not being of the “chanting” ilk, it took me by surprise that it was so easy.

I had decided to go back out on the dating site, the free one, not to mention names, but it is, well, just “OK,” and rhymes with “OK Stupid.”  In my profile I put that I am a “Buddhist,” and proud of it.  Unfortunately, or fortunately as luck would have it, there were only three others Buddhist in my area. That’s right, three.  And of those three, only one who attracted me and she was Japanese, and so I wrote, she wrote back, we went to dinner, and talked about our Buddhist faiths.

“I meditate at a Tibetan temple, but really like the writings of Dogen the most,” I said.

“I chant for things,” she said.

She told me she was involved with the SGI center and that they are an international organization.

That was the only time we met, and we have exchanged emails since, but she’s never available and so I took the hint and decided to take another break from internet-dating.  But I had obtained this information on a different type of Buddhism and so, went to a meeting, got a book on it, and chanted “Nam Myoho, Renge, Kyo” for the first time.  I didn’t know what to ask for and so I just asked for Happiness.  That was yesterday morning.  When I got to my recording job for the day and was about to put up the backdrop for the subject I was filming, I saw this picture on the wall:

Now, seeing the Japanese symbol for Happiness on the wall of an attorney’s office in McKinney Texas was weird, but really shouldn’t be given any significance, but when I got home that day and spoke to my daughter, she told me about this “cool” lady who came into the juice bar where she worked and told them about her Buddhist training and the power of “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.”  And then, when I sat down to look at my laptop, I had this tweet from Yoko Ono — who I’ve never noticed a tweet from ever, nor do I remember ever following her:

So, I’m not sure what it all means, but, well, I had a day-trip today in to Waco and found this Lotus Flower waiting for me:

Anyway, I’m not sure what it all means, but stay tuned, I’m chanting again today!

Thickle of Joint

I’m aging.  No big deal.  It is part of life: we are born, age, die, then do it again until we attain enlightenment.  I have no doubts of this.

My joints ache.

This morning, I surprised the gods and woke up while they were still talking.  Has that ever happen to you?  You wake up and hear that voice that puts you to sleep and tells the stories of your dreams.

The voice said, “You are thickle of joint.”

It was an old-English voice this time.

Anyone know what “Thickle of Joint” means?
