"The Occultists, however, know that the traditions of Esoteric Philosophy must be the right ones, simply because they are the most logical, and reconcile every difficulty." — Helena Blavatsky
Today, I wish to talk with you about birds. Yes, those creatures in the skies we pay little attention to; however, if we did, our lives would have more meaning.
Before I was an Esoterist/Nichiren Buddhist/Nice Guy After Coffee, I worked as a banking software guy. On one of our install trips we hit a bird with our car while driving to the client. The driver thought it was funny, and said something like, "That 'ill teach it." For me it wasn't so funny, I knew it meant something, and it did, the trip was a disaster and we all ended up losing our jobs. I'm not saying it was a bad thing, but it was the warning that change was coming, in my book.
In the Navy, many moons ago, in San Diego one of those crazy Cuckoo Birds who are crying all the time, took a flying dump on my white uniform as I was headed for a Friday morning inspection. Because of the yellow crap on my hat, shoulder, and sleeve -- this must of been a sick bird --I failed inspection and got two-weeks detention which kept me from leaving the base. During that time, a few buddies I most likely would have been out drinking with, got into a terrible car accident. So that Cuckoo Bird with its undiagnosed bladder ailment, was really a stroke of good fortune from the heavens.
When my mom was dying in the hospital, of lung cancer, I slept in a chair beside her bed next to a window. It was a cold, dark, rainy day outside that window where I noticed a pidgin and her kids, cubs, chics, whatever a birds offspring is, shivering close together on a ledge. I knew it meant something; something like a message from the heavens reminding me that I needed to be thankful for the time I had with my mom, who protected me from the winds and rains with no help from a man, during a time they still called boys like me a "bastard child." A few minutes after seeing those birds, mom woke from her morphine-induced bliss, and spoke as clearly as ever, as she said, "Terry, I didn't give you much, but I did give you love."
Those were her last coherent words to me as she morphed into a living skeleton before finally giving up the ghost and dying. Seeing those birds was a sign to enjoy that last encounter with my wakeful mother.
I could go on and on about birds in my life, how a bird flew into our garage door and was suffering, and my wife took garden cutters to cut its head off and end its suffering. I buried that headless bird in the backyard, soon after that we divorced.
I have always been sensitive to birds, so sensitive in fact, that I've actually been feeding them from a bird feeder outside my bedroom window. And over the years they have even pecked at my window when their feeder was empty. However, something changed a few months ago, they stopped feeding, and my luck changed. I haven't won a a cent in daily-fantasy sports, something I do for fun, just a few dollars a day. Nothing big. Then there is my cancer, which I'll talk more about later, right now I was to talk birds.
In esoteric traditions, birds serve as living metaphors for our souls, some consider them psychopomps: a spirit, or deity whose job it is to guide our souls from Earth to the afterlife.
In Persian mysticism and Sufi tradition, the Simurgh is a giant bird that represents divine wisdom, unity, and the realization that ultimate truth is found within oneself.
To the alchemists, the firebird, or Phoenix, represented the rebirth of one's soul, rising from the ashes of failure.
The Native Americans honored the Thunderbird as a celestial being whose wings generate cosmic rumblings to alert us of trouble.
Then there are the Avian Oracles, tarot type cards of birds and the meanings of their chance encounters.
For a better understanding of bird symbolism you can go to Journeytreehealing.com, and be prepared to have your mind blown away. In their Bird Symbolism section you'll find that the kingfisher bird represents peace and prosperity; and that the crow, which is often linked to“darkness,” is actually a symbol of change and transformation. i.e., it was a crow we killed that day my software career unraveled.
The Humming Bird symbolizes the nectar of life and teaches us to draw on life’s sweet essence to sustain ourselves through challenging times.
Seeing a sparrow is a sign to recognize your inner strength and use it to bring about the change you need in your life. i.e, dump the guy.
Birds are always around us. And everyday we should take a moment to stop, look, and listen to them, for they really are messengers to help guide the way.
Now, let's turn to today's post, titled, My Birds, My Cancer(?)
I've been feeding the birds around my condo for ten years now. Actually, they've been fed here since my neighbor, Goga, was feeding them before she died around the time I started feeding them.
I call them my pets because they are always chirping outside my window, and sometimes they look at me from my window ledge to remind their feeder is empty. They've even tapped on the glass a few times.
The problem now is that they've stopped chirping and eating. There are a couple reasons to consider why this has happened:
One. I changed feeders when the bottom fell out of the old one they had been feeding out of for ten years.
Two. The store ran out of the cheap stuff and so I used the more expensive seed.
Three. Global Warming - yes, I'm old enough to call it what it is.
Okay, "Climate Change," that word we are not allowed to say in Texas anymore without being looked down on as a radical... Who cares, what I want to tell you is that there is this tropical plant that grows next to the bird feeder, and it has been there since the place was built. Every year it starts out as nothing but little plants and by the end summer, it is a nice shade bush just above the feeder that the birds sometimes land on to keep the rain off them. Every winter, it dies, and starts over again the next year. It has been that way since 2007, the year I moved into this condo.
Last year, for the first time since I've been here, the tropical bush didn't die, it just kept growing because of the mild winter. And so it was already full grown when this summer started, and within a few weeks It had grown over the bird feeder with a cave of tropical leafs.
I kept telling myself I would trim back the leafs so the birds would use the feeder again. But I didn't. Too busy. That was about three months ago. Since then, I have had no luck with sports gambling, as I said, and, most notable of all lung cancer.
Are the two connected? Who knows, but what I do know is the cancer in my lung is now the size of a dime, and I am scheduled to have that section of my lungs removed, just as I did five years ago. I'm confident I'll survive this, that is, if my birds return.
So I had my biopsy a few days ago. Now I'm waiting for the results. Results don't matter though because I'm ready to fight. You see, this cancer shit isn't for sissies. What it does is it attaches itself to you, and puts you under its grime reaper curse. If you don't shake it off, you die, shake it off, you go on until its next attempt. Simple stuff really.
Enough cancer talk, today, today I'll be talking about signs, for they are everywhere if we pause to see them and connect the dots.
When I got in the car to go to the hospital for my biopsy last week, as soon as the engine started, the Tom Petty song "Free Falling" began playing. I listened to that Tom Petty's song, and remembered how I had decided to buy tickets for his show two weeks before the event the year that song came out, and my girlfriend had laughed and said, "Two weeks before the concert, why bother? He'll be back in a year."
Still, I decided to buy the tickets, and this is where good fortune comes in, for as I was ordering the tickets on the phone, the agent said, "Wow, these are second row center, someone must have had them on hold and returned them" -- yes, things like that were very rare, but possible in the informational dark ages of 1989.
And so we watched Tom Petty from the second row that summer. Great fortune had hit me smack between the eyes, and my girlfriend thought I had scored the tickets from a mob connection I still had back in Detroit. "Be honest," she said at the show, "no one gets seats like these two weeks before a show."
Getting back to my drive to the hospital for my biopsy: as that Tom Petty song was playing, I knew good fortune was guiding me, and the biopsy would be a smooth procedure; and sure enough, it was, and I should get the results today or tomorrow.
Conversely, I've prayed for a miracle healing, but suspect that it's cancer. And if it is the big C, I'm ready to go again. I'm ready to fight lung cancer 2.0 in 2026 and claim victory over it as I did back in 2019. I mean, all good things come in three, right?
If I get the results today, it will be good news, because today is August 26th, which is a rare celestial configuration known as the "Finger of God." It happens from the Sun being in Virgo while it aligns in a complex angle with Pluto... did I mention I am a Scorpio, and we used to be guided by the planet Pluto before they degraded it to a floating hunk of ice. Which makes perfect sense to me, for my life has always been a dream within a dream floating on a thin layer of ice.
If I get the results tomorrow, the battle is on, for tomorrow is August 27, which features a rare Mercury Cazimi in Virgo. Yes! Mercury, that swift Roman messenger god of old, will give me the news as we prepare to go into battle, side by side, just like ancient times.

Nazca Lines Seen From Sky
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I try to be upbeat, positive, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, but, well:
"Nazca Lines, groups of geoglyphs, large line drawings that appear, from a distance, to be etched into Earth’s surface on the arid Pampa Colorada (“Coloured Plain” or “Red Plain”), northwest of the city of Nazca in southern Peru. They extend over an area of nearly 190 square miles (500 square km).
Most of the Nazca Lines were constructed more than 2,000 years ago by the people of the Nazca culture (c. 200 bce–600 ce), though some clearly predate the Nazca and are considered to be the work of the earlier Paracas culture. While the images dated to the Paracas are often humanlike and bear some resemblance to still earlier petroglyphs in the region, the subjects of the Nazca-made lines are generally plants and animals—such as a monkey (some 360 feet [110 metres] long), a killer whale (210 feet [65 metres]), a bird resembling a condor (443 feet [135 metres]), a hummingbird (165 feet [50 metres]), a pelican (935 feet [285 metres]), a spider (150 feet [46 metres]), and various flowers, trees, and other plants—as well as geometric shapes, including triangles, trapezoids, and spirals. Although the figures have been said to be virtually indecipherable from ground level, some claim that one cannot understand their meaning without walking what are now believed by some to be the sacred paths.
Since their discovery in the 1920s, the lines have been variously interpreted, but their significance remains largely shrouded in mystery. The American historian Paul Kosok observed the lines from an airplane in 1941 and hypothesized that they were drawn for astronomical purposes. MarĂa Reiche, a German translator who spent years studying the site and lobbying for its preservation, concluded that it was a huge astronomical calendar and that some of its animal sketches were modeled after groupings of stars in the night sky. In 1967, however, the American astrophysicist Gerald Hawkins found no correlation between changes in the celestial bodies and the design of the Nazca Lines."
And of course, there is the Ancient Aliens theories that the lines were a signal to the UFO's that came at the beginning of our civilizations. I won't go to deep into that here, but I believe the Aliens are from the future, but can manifest in the past through time travel. This explains why we don't see them now, they haven't arrived yet! -- my meds work, trust me.
Now, the importance of the tourist plane crash is just another of my omens that shit is about to hit the fan. This goes with my stock market crash prediction, Donald Trump's Omen, and of course my premonition that one of the big three leaders, Trump, Putin, Xi, will soon die., not to forget that a 2000 year old stature of Athena has been dug up, and that Homer's Odyssey is the top movie playing this summer, can there be any doubt something is happening with the gods -- or future Aliens -- telling us to stop what we're doing and pay attention to the climate change, poverty, depleted resources (to name a few)?
Now, don't be alarmed, this is all a part of the divine plan, so roll with it. I mean, to not do so is just outright delusional.
What is significant about the Nazca plane crash is signifiant because of a few things:
1. Thirteen people died, "Thirteen" means a few things, first, in the Major Arcana of the Tarot, the 13th card is Death. Contrary to popular fear, when upright this card signifies transformation, endings, and rebirth rather than literal death.
Then, the teachings of Jesus are framed around the formula 1 + 12 (Christ plus the apostles), producing thirteen. According to Pythagorean philosophy, one added to twelve creates an unlimited number, symbolising transcendence beyond completion. Through this principle, miracles—such as the multiplication of loaves and fishes—are said to occur.
Thirteen represents an all-or-nothing law of destiny:Death through failure and degeneration Rebirth through regeneration and transformation
It is also the sacred number of the Great Goddess, reflected in the thirteen lunar cycles of the year.
2. As stated above, the Nazca Lines at the very least, are a message to the heavens, or possibly an answer, and I'll say a warning to us today that we need to obey the heavens or else.
3. The plane went down on August 2nd, 2026. Numerologically speaking, that's 8-2-2026 that's 20 = 2. "Two" is the coming together of feminine forces. Which I've have written about before with the Age of Aquarius. And what we are witnessing now in the world with all this Nationalism is the last grasp of the Masculine forces that have been ruling the world since the time of Jesus, or beginning of the Age of Pisces. This is the positive force that will happen after the negative troubles we will soon experience.
Finally, in the blogesphere, people are writing about how bad the aircraft was, some say they flew it and the warning lights kept flashing. Whatever the case may be, those flashing lights aren't only on that plane. They are all around us.
It's Friday the 13th. Finally, I wait all year for this day. I've told you before how lucky Friday the 13th is for me, so I won't repeat myself. Instead, let's look at the 13th card of the Tarot, Death.
In the Major Arcana of the Tarot, the 13th card is Death. Contrary to popular fear, when upright this card signifies transformation, endings, and rebirth rather than literal death. When reversed, it may indicate stagnation, upheaval, decay, or resistance to change.
Despite its ominous reputation in superstition, thirteen holds a positive and powerful role in esoteric traditions. It is regarded as the number of mystical manifestation and cosmic law.
The teachings of Jesus are framed around the formula 1 + 12 (Christ plus the apostles), producing thirteen. According to Pythagorean philosophy, one added to twelve creates an unlimited number, symbolising transcendence beyond completion. Through this principle, miracles—such as the multiplication of loaves and fishes—are said to occur.
Thirteen represents an all-or-nothing law of destiny:
Death through failure and degeneration
Rebirth through regeneration and transformation
It is also the sacred number of the Great Goddess, reflected in the thirteen lunar cycles of the year.
