In ancient Rome, an agricultural festival was held on January 30th called the
Feriae Sementiva (Feast of Spring) and was celebrated annually on this date with sacrifices to Ceres (the goddess of agriculture) and Tellus Mater (the goddess of the Earth and fertility), as well as other lesser gods and goddesses associated with agriculture.
